Witchcraft and the Supernatural
Understanding the unknown
Staff researching in this field are interested in exploring the ways that literature has represented the supernatural from the nineteenth century to the present day.
Our work in this area has included a study of spiritualism and women’s writing, a collection of essays on women and the Victorian occult and a British Academy funded project on Witchcraft and Magic in the nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries. This research provides a productive counterpart to the exploration of science and technology undertaken elsewhere in the department.
