Communities and Ecologies

Nature, communities and a changing world

The Communities and Ecologies grouping is centrally engaged with research questions that impact on human life on the planet now and in the future.

Our researchers work in different historical periods, but they are all concerned with the changes that are happening in the world around us. The two journals edited within the English Department – Utopian Studies and The John Clare Society Journal – are connected to our work on Communities and Ecologies.

Current and future projects include working with migrant communities and their narratives in French banlieues (funded by the AHRC), exploring the ecopolitics of John Clare’s poetry, and engaging with representations of rural communities in India and England.
